Narrated As-Saib bin Yazid:In the lifetime of the Prophet, Abu Bakr and `Umar, the Adhan for the Jumua prayer used to be
pronounced when the Imam sat on the pulpit. But during the Caliphate of `Uthman when the Muslims
increased in number, a third Adhan at Az-Zaura was added. Abu `Abdullah said, "Az-Zaura is a place
in the market of Medina."

حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ كَانَ النِّدَاءُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَوَّلُهُ إِذَا جَلَسَ الإِمَامُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُثْمَانُ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ وَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ زَادَ النِّدَاءَ الثَّالِثَ عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ.

Fortalt af As-Saib bin Yazid: Den person, der øgede antallet af Adhans til Jumua-bønnerne til tre, var `Uthman bin `Affan, og det var, da antallet af de (muslimske) mennesker i Medina var steget. Narrated As-Saib bin Yazid:The person who increased the number of Adhans for the Jumua prayers to three was `Uthman bin
`Affan and it was when the number of the (Muslim) people of Medina had increased. In the lifetime of

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ الْمَاجِشُونُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، أَنَّ الَّذِي، زَادَ التَّأْذِينَ الثَّالِثَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ حِينَ كَثُرَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مُؤَذِّنٌ غَيْرَ وَاحِدٍ، وَكَانَ التَّأْذِينُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ حِينَ يَجْلِسُ الإِمَامُ، يَعْنِي عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ.

Fortalt af Az-Zuhri: Jeg hørte As-Saib bin Yazid sige: 'I Allahs sendebuds levetid og Abu Bakrs og 'Umars, plejede Adhan for Jumua-bønnen at blive udtalt, efter at imamen havde taget plads på prædikestolen. Men da folket steg i antal under kalifatet 'Uthman, introducerede han en tredje Adhan (om fredagen til Jumua-bønnen), og den blev udtalt i Az-Zaura', og den nye tilstand forblev sådan i de efterfølgende år.

But when the people increased in number during the caliphate of `Uthman, he introduced a third
Adhan (on Friday for the Jumua prayer) and it was pronounced at Az-Zaura and that new state of

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ السَّائِبَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ، يَقُولُ إِنَّ الأَذَانَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ كَانَ أَوَّلُهُ حِينَ يَجْلِسُ الإِمَامُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي خِلاَفَةِ عُثْمَانَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ وَكَثُرُوا، أَمَرَ عُثْمَانُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بِالأَذَانِ الثَّالِثِ، فَأُذِّنَ بِهِ عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ، فَثَبَتَ الأَمْرُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

Abdullah bin Yazid Al-Ansari fortalte, at han gik ud med Al-Bara bin Azib og Zaid bin Arqam og påkaldte sig regn. Han (Abdullah bin Yazid) rejste sig, men ikke på en prædikestol og påkaldte Allah for regn og bad derefter to Raka-bønner med høj recitation uden at udtale Adhan eller Iqama. Abu Ishaq sagde, at Adbullah bin Yazid havde set profeten (gøre det samme)

Narrated Abdullah bin Yazid Al-Ansari that he went out with Al-Bara bin Azib, and Zaid bin Arqam and invoked for rain. He (Abdullah bin Yazid) stood up but not on a pulpit and invoked Allah for rain and then offered two Raka prayers with loud recitation without pronouncing Adhan or Iqama. Abu Ishaq said that Adbullah bin Yazid had seen the Prophet (?) (doing the same)

وَقَالَ لَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ عَنْ زُهَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، خَرَجَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ وَخَرَجَ مَعَهُ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ عَازِبٍ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ رضى الله عنهم فَاسْتَسْقَى، فَقَامَ بِهِمْ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مِنْبَرٍ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ يَجْهَرُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ وَلَمْ يُؤَذِّنْ، وَلَمْ يُقِمْ. قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ وَرَأَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Fortalt af Anas: Zaid bin Thabit sagde: "Vi tog Suhur med Profeten. Så rejste han sig for at bede." Jeg spurgte: "Hvad var intervallet mellem Suhur og Adhan?" Han svarede: "Intervallet var tilstrækkeligt til at recitere halvtreds vers fra Koranen."

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ تَسَحَّرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ. قُلْتُ كَمْ كَانَ بَيْنَ الأَذَانِ وَالسَّحُورِ قَالَ قَدْرُ خَمْسِينَ آيَةً.
