Abdullah fortalte: Jeg spurgte Allahs sendebud: Hvilken synd er den alvorligste i Allahs øje? Han svarede: At du forbinder en partner med Allah, at Han har skabt dig. Han (fortælleren) sagde: Jeg sagde til ham: Sandelig, det er virkelig alvorligt. Han (fortælleren) sagde: Jeg spurgte ham, hvad den næste (næstalvorligste) var. Han svarede: At du slår dit barn ihjel af frygt for, at han skal slutte sig til dig i mad. Han (fortælleren) sagde: Jeg spurgte, hvad den næste var. Han bemærkede: Derefter at du begår utroskab med din næstes hustru.

Abdullah reported:I asked the Messenger of Allah (?): Which sin is the gravest in the eye of Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you associate a partner with Allah (despite the fact) that He has created you. He (the reporter) said: I told him (the, Holy Prophet): Verily it is indeed grave. He (the reporter) said: I asked him what the next (gravest sin) was. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you kill your child out of fear that he shall join you in food. He (the reporter) said: I asked (him) what the next (gravest sin) was. He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Then (the next gravest sin) is that you commit adultery with the wife of your neighbour.

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، وَقَالَ، عُثْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَىُّ الذَّنْبِ أَعْظَمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ قَالَ " أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ " . قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَعَظِيمٌ . قَالَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ " ثُمَّ أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ " . قَالَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ " ثُمَّ أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ " .

Det er fortalt på autoritet af Abdullah b. Masud, at en mand sagde: Allahs sendebud, hvilken forseelse er den mest alvorlige i Allahs øje? Han svarede: At du forbinder en partner med Allah, at Han skabte dig. Han sagde: Hvad så derefter? Han svarede: At du dræber dit barn af frygt for, at han ville slutte sig til dig i mad. Han sagde: Hvad da? Han svarede: At du begår ægteskabsbrud med din næstes hustru. Og den Almægtige og Ophøjede Herre vidnede om det (med dette vers): og dem, som ikke tilbeder en anden gud ved siden af Allah, og ikke dræber et liv, som Allah har forbudt at dræbe, uret mæssigt, og ikke begår hor. Den, der gør dette, vil få sin straf.

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah b. Masud that a man said:Messenger of Allah, which offence is the most grievous in the eye of Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you associate a partner with Allah (despite the fact) that He created you. He (the man) said: What next? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you kill your child out of fear that he would join you in food. He (the inquirer) said (again): What next? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you commit adultery with the wife of your neighbour. And the Almighty and Exalted Lord testified it (with this verse):
All those who call not unto another god along with Allah, and slay not any soul which Allah has forbidden, except in the cause of justice, nor commit fornication, and he who does this shall meet a requital of sin (xxv. 68).

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ عُثْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الذَّنْبِ أَكْبَرُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ قَالَ " أَنْ تَدْعُوَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ " . قَالَ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ " أَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ " . قَالَ ثُمَّ أَىٌّ قَالَ " أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ " فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ تَصْدِيقَهَا { وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلاَ يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ إِلاَّ بِالْحَقِّ وَلاَ يَزْنُونَ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا}
